After serving as an inspiration to millions of people who are differently abled around the world, Sophia Weaver, the North Carolina girl who suffered from various physical deformities and Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects mostly girls, died on Thursday in Cornelious, according to The New York Times.
Weaver was only 10-years-old, but in her short life, she highlighted the importance of showing love to and taking care of those who could not do so themselves.
She also helped make disabilities and deformities more acceptable in a generation obsessed with perfect looks.
Natalie Weaver, Sophia’s mom, announced the news of her daughter’s passing her Sophia’s loyal supporters via Twitter, stating that her death has left the family with a “shattering pain.”
“OUR #SWEETSOPHIA LEFT THIS EARTH LAST NIGHT AS SHE SPENT EVERY DAY OF HER LIFE, SURROUNDED BY LOVE & ADORATION,” SHE SAID.
Sadly, this mom has had to defend her daughter from cowardly, heartless online trolls who used an image of Sophia to further their twisted pro-eugenics agenda. For those who don’t know, eugenics is a movement that Adolf Hitler was a staunch supporter of, one that aims to selectively breed particular types of people while forcibly sterilizing others to increase the ‘purity’ of a race.
Reality vs the highlight reel

Little Sophia suffered from Type 1 diabetes and Rett syndrome, which left her with disfigurements to her face, hands, and feet.
As a result of this condition, Sophia’s family needed to take care of her 24 hours a day. Their daughter needed around the clock attention.
Of course, life wasn’t easy for Sophia and her family, but they found the needed strength and hope to continue, often within each other.
On May 20, Natalie posted a troublesome tweet to Sophia’s followers informing them that her daughter had taken ill very quickly.
“#SWEETSOPHIA GOT REALLY SICK REALLY QUICKLY AND I’M REALLY SCARED. I KNOW MY GIRL IS A FIGHTER AND CAN PULL THROUGH THIS. PLEASE KEEP HER IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND FOR THOSE WITH A T-SHIRT PLEASE WEAR IT TO KEEP HER HEARTBEAT CLOSE TO YOURS,” THE TWEET READ.
#SweetSophia got really sick really quickly and I'm really scared. I know my girl is a fighter and can pull through this. Please keep her in your thoughts and for those with a t-shirt please wear it to keep her heartbeat close to yours.
Tragically, just three days later, Sophia moved on from this world, leaving her family devasted at her loss.
